BARMOUTH RESORT IMPROVEMENT GROUP

THE TEAR DROP PROJECT

JOIN PROJECT WITH LLANBEDROG CHILDREN

Early in 2008, BRIG was approached by Ceri Wyn Morris, Project co-ordinator for O Dan y Môr a’i Donnau / Living Coasts Living Seas project about possible co-operation with BRIG. Ceri was impressed by the work Barmouth Resort Improvement Group had done, and 4 months after the first meeting, the impressive and original new sculpture was put in place in the beautiful Harbour Gardens for everyone to see and enjoy.

The Tear Drop Sculpture was created by the children of Llanbedrog in conjunction with the Living Coasts Living Sea initiative, and also using European Union money.  BRIG did not contribute financially to this, but did organise the location and delivery of the Sculpture, as well as the opening ceremony.  There is little maintenance needed by us, but Greg Courtney from the Last Inn has continually kept the area looking great.

On the 18th May 2008 we had a joint opening Ceremony of the Palm Tree Project and A Drop in the Ocean Sculpture, and they were both officially opened by BRIG President Elfyn Llwyd MP.

Through art workshops with the children in Llanbedrog, it developed into the idea of a ‘drop of water’ shape, that you could peep in to to reveal their design of an  under the sea landscape.

Chris Knowles on the Harp and our own Barmouth Samba Band accompanied the opening ceremony as crowds gathered to take the first look at our new addition to the harbour area.
