BARMOUTH RESORT IMPROVEMENT GROUP
To accompany our Palm Tree Project, we decided to add new Benches to the Promenade wall in the existing gaps. Over time we have filled these, and created new sections with the help of Gwynedd Council Officer Phil Cousins. They really compliment the work we have already done so far and add to the special feel and attraction of the Promenade as a whole, as well as being a perfect place to stop and relax and look out to sea.
Over the years, we have painted the benches, too and do aim to maintain them regularly. Unfortunately, we are unable to do this annually because of the cost, but we are hopeful that we paint them often. We added new stand alone benches, with legs, on the north end of the Promenade on the opposite side. This is to offer a resting point at that end of the promenade, and they are on that side due to the water and stones being thrown over.
BENCH SPONSORSHIP
We have a variety of sponsors on and have completed the area from the Bath House to the Arbour Hotel/Marine Mansions, by the Coast Guard Station, and at the north end of the Promenade.
The Benches were designed by Matthew Harris, and are hand made by local craftsman Bruce Evans, They have been placed on the existing “cock and hen wall” along the promenade.
There are now 69 Benches in total, with 4 benches placed on Barmouth Railway Station, and money has been raised from many kind individual sponsors and local business.
CONTINUING SUPPORT AND MAINTENANCE
To sponsor a Bench on the Promenade is easy and rewarding. It is £500 for 5 years, or £750 for 10 years, and we can put a plaque on it with mutually accepted wording of your choice. If you would like to know more, then please contact us. Also note, we do not do benches in the Harbour. For information on that call 01341 280 671.
